"...and I will dwell in the House of the LORD forever!"

An abnormal amount of garage sales cover the streets of Kerrville; at least more than any other place I’ve lived. It’s become a weekend hobby for the Hawks to hit the streets looking for that “sweet deal” with the rest of the garage sale gang. Every now and again, we will find that “diamond in the rough”, or how some have phrased it, “one man’s trash, another man’s treasure”.

Last weekend, we bought an old wooden chest built in the 1800’s. The wood is cracked. The finish is peeling. Without a doubt, it has seen better days. Natalie, who has recently turned into a HGTV fanatic, plans to refurbish the piece into a beautiful toy chest for Hayden’s toys. Better her than me!

As God’s personal creation and beloved children, that’s exactly what God does for us. He takes our deficiencies, scars, and bruises from life, and through His grace and mercy, refurbishes our well being. It was the Apostle Paul who wrote, “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.” (2 Corinthians 4:16-17)

When you feel like that old, worn piece of furniture wasting away in that hot, dusty garage, take heart. Almighty God is ready to refurbish your life—if you let Him.
